Sia - Breathe Me.
Oh wow. Okay so this song got a lot more popular since the day I found it. (hipster thoughts. hipster thoughts.)
However, her less popular songs really do deserve to be popular as well. She’s beautiful. Most of her music has this pull, this sad crumbling feel.
Definitely the perfect music to just let go and lay back to, to just think with.
Tally Hall - Turn The Lights Off
This was another nice little suggestion from my ask box. I’m not a giant fan, but I do have a couple of their songs! I think the anon put it best:
“From your friends at Tally Hall. These guys are extremely unique, brandishing music in a way that doesn’t follow conventions at all. Their music is the kind that seems like it’s just simply fun to play or perform, and lyrically a number of their songs are genius. Unfortunately their desire to be weird leads to some less appealing sounds.”
Thank you anon!
Smile - Wavelength
This was a suggestion from my askbox. I’d heard it a little while before it was suggested. It’s a little slow on the start, but overall I enjoyed it. The artist of the song has a pretty great basis to start building on.
Windmill - Fluorescent Lights
Lovely little song. I’ve had a few people complain about his voice, but it’s never bothered me. I’m leaving that warning ahead of time, just in case.
Windmill is a single man and a couple of friends from time to time, but it’s his work that builds every one of the catchy, windy songs. The entire “Puddle City Racing Lights” album is a delicately wrapped, layered, and placed present.
Kiss of Death - Sparkadia
Sparkadia is a really great band and I’m very happy I found them recently. Their album “Postcards” is magnificent. Their music is a lot more “pop-y” than most of my library, and it’s a welcome change.
I’m back again! I’ve got a big list of new music that you guys will probably like!
To start it off, lets go with something happy.
Everybody Come Down - The Delgados
Absolutely happily charged song. I found this band awhile back while listening to the local radio station. They released quite a few songs, but didn’t end up sticking together. They deserved the attention that they wanted, but never unfortunately got it.
All of their stuff is very much worthy of a listen.
Against Me! - I Was a Teenage Anarchist
Well they’re actually quite popular but I do find quite a few people that don’t know about them. Their songs get a little too folk for me sometimes so it’s difficult for me to say I know a lot because I don’t. Their songs that I do hold on to though are much more to their “punk rock” genre they’ve set themselves to.
Here’s my obvious favourite. I’m a little partial I suppose.
Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart ft. Tegan Quin - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWv4KDE_WIM
Astronautalis - Contrails (feat. Tegan Quin.)
Wow. Okay I don’t know where to start. This is only the scratch of the surface with Astronautalis. He’s got a VERY wide range of music. If you just like this track and want one more sort of like it, try out
Dimitri Mandeleev. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib8kvZxpoTs
Otherwise, go crazy. Youtube has a wide range of his work. Explore away!
Band of Horses - The Funeral
Since about 4 years ago I’ve been listening to Band of Horses. Their music has helped many through one too many a tough situation. Also kept my head up. They’re very good at creating depth. A kind of depth that’s felt, not heard. That is the kind of music that can stand out easily.
